1) Below is a letter from Paul Wieringa, Executive Director, Electricity, responding to a letter re smeters from a member. He is using information that has been provided by the industry and we need to help educate him. I intend to write to him, hoping he will read and consider information that is more accurate.

We need to write to him, Premier John Horgan <email@example.com>, and MLAs [http://www.stopsmartmetersbc.com/z/bc-contact-e-mail-lists/] about the many smeter problems, and continue to press them to take action for a recall and refund of legacy fees.
2) A survey which gives us the opportunity to express our concern about environmental issues such as microwave radiation from wireless devices being installed on or near our homes and in schools.
3) Dr. Mercola speaks to the report on the study about reduced male fertility that was recently released, but which did not mention the possible involvement of EMR. Dr. Mercola does. This info will reach so many people who never read a scientific study about EMR or cell phones, etc.
Skyrocketing Male Infertility May Threaten Mankind’s Survival
“The tissues with the highest density of VGCCs are your brain, the pacemaker in your heart and male testes. (A man’s testicles are also more vulnerable to EMFs for the fact that they’re on the outside of the body. Women’s eggs, on the other hand, are somewhat protected and shielded from EMFs due to them being further inside the body.31)
What this research tells us is that excessive microwave exposure can be a direct contributor to conditions such as Alzheimer’s, anxiety, depression, autism, cardiac arrhythmias and infertility.32 Indeed, other studies have linked low-level electromagnetic radiation (EMR) exposure from cellphones to an 8 percent reduction in sperm motility and a 9 percent reduction in sperm viability.”

Subject: Response to your email regarding BC Hydro’s Smart Meter Program, Ref: 101337
Premier John Horgan has forwarded a copy of your July 22, 2017 email to me for response regarding BC Hydro’s Smart Meter Program.
Although radio frequency fields vary depending on the technology used, the radio frequency exposure from wireless electricity meters is very low. The components of a smart meter will emit radio frequency signals much lower than many commonplace household appliances. When considering risks associated with radio frequency, there are three things to consider: strength, duration and distance.
Strength: BC Hydro’s smart meters communicate using a very low power signal – less than 2 microwatts/cm2 when standing 20 centimetres from the meter – which is 50 percent less than the strictest standards in the world.
Duration: Smart meters transmit an average total of a minute a day.
Distance: Smart meters are located outside of the home. At a distance of 3 feet, the power signal is 0.07 microwatts/cm2 which is one ten‑thousandth of the federal health and safety standard governing exposure to radio frequency and electromagnetic fields.
Customers who chose to keep their old meter have to pay cost‑recovery fees. These fees cover the cost of the additional infrastructure needed so that the smart grid can operate around the non‑communicating meters as well as the cost of maintaining the old system. In April 2014, these fees were reviewed and approved by the British Columbia Utilities Commission. A copy of this decision can be found at http://www.bcuc.com/Documents/Proceedings/2014/DOC_41266_04-25-2014_BCH%20Meter%20Choices_Decision_G-59-14.pdf.
Thank you for writing.

Subject: Smart Meters
Congratulations on your win!
Now I would like to do a little winning myself. You see, in 2013 the big fight against mandatory installation of smart meters was in progress.
As part of the fight I took part in, I emailed several letters to your office.
Well you know how that turned out. I have been penalized by being charged extra for the luxury of keeping my old meter.
As a reminder, the reason I was opposed to smart meters was for health issues. Not issues I am afraid of getting in the future, but the electromagnetic sensitivity I was already experiencing. I still am.
This is what I am requesting of you as our new Premier:
1. STOP BC Hydro from charging people like me extra per month for keeping existing meters
2. I think it’s only fair to get paid back every cent my husband and I have paid in the past, retroactively.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
I await a reply
Good luck in your new job
Director, Coalition to Stop Smart Meters
