2018-12-08 – Electrosmog and Impact on Planetary Health

1) The decline of insects no doubt has many causes:  pesticides, destruction of habitat, but also EMR which, in this article as in so many, is not mentioned. Unless the public is educated on this nothing will change. If the insects are affected, how can we believe we aren’t?

‘It’s a sad reality’: a troubling trend sees a 97% decline in monarch butterflies

In the 1980s, roughly 4.5 million monarchs wintered in California, but at last count, there may be as few as 30,000…

Anurag Agrawal, an ecology and evolutionary biology professor at Cornell University, suggests that the butterflies are like the canary in the coal mine. In a blog about his work, he said that because they travel across North America every year, monarch migration can be helpful in determining the “health of our entire continent”. But saving them could require big changes. “We have to take a step back and ask ourselves the harder questions that none of us want to deal with.” He said monarchs are “are exhibiting multi-decadal declines that point to very big systemic problems. We shouldn’t fool ourselves”.

If you missed reading Dr. Cindy Russell’s “Wireless Silent Spring” when I had it in an update a few months ago, here is the link again:

2) Relevant to the above article is one published this month in The Lancet, regarding the relationship between the extremely high levels of electrosmog and overall planetary health. Yet Health Canada and the BC Centre for Disease Control, and our provincial health authorities continue to ignore what is going on. How much longer… ?

Planetary electromagnetic pollution: it is time to assess its impact

“Man-made electromagnetic fields range from extremely low frequency (associated with electricity supplies and electrical appliances) to low, medium, high, and extremely high frequency (mostly associated with wireless communication). The potential effects of these anthropogenic electromagnetic fields on natural electromagnetic fields, such as the Schumann Resonance that controls the weather and climate, have not been properly studied. Similarly, we do not adequately understand the effects of anthropogenic radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation on other natural and man-made atmospheric components or the ionosphere.”

3)   Fertility is decreasing in most developed countries and recent studies have shown that sperm are especially vulnerable to microwave radiation.  This study concludes that exposure to RF/EMF damages sperm and affects sperm quality.

Radiations and male fertility

“Testicles are very sensitive to these radiations because of the development and maturation processes of sperm taking place in the testicles. It is also well established that the developing phase of the brain and the testicles are very sensitive to radiation, which may cause severe damages in the form of genotoxic effects [9, 25, 26, 45]. Several studies suggest that microwave radiations are potentially strong enough to penetrate the brain cranium, and nearly 40% of these can reach deeper into the brain [46, 47]; penetration depths of 4–5 cm are assumed [48, 49]. The same applies to the testes…

Apart from this, cell phone usage has been linked to decreases in progressive motile sperm count [20] motility [20] and viability [20, 34], as well as to increases in ROS [29] and abnormal sperm morphology. Recent evidence also shows that Wi-Fi from laptops negatively affects sperm quality [8]. EMF is also responsible for the decrease in fertilization rate [57], spermatogenic cell numbers and trigger apoptosis [58, 59], reduced sperm quality [60], hormonal changes in the testis [20, 61], and may give rise to fetal loss and developmental impairments in the embryonic period…

The majority of infertile men present with DNA damage [98, 99, 100]. Apart from several other lifestyle factors, cell phone use has been identified to induce sperm DNA damages [26] as a result of an overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in men continuously using mobile phones. This may lead to the development of different pathologies including tumors, and problems in the spermatogenesis.”

4)  An old scam is making the rounds again. As the member who sent it to me said, it works because “in a lot of ways mirrors the arrogant bullying attitude of real life Hydro!”

Shocking scam: fraudster pretending to be from BC Hydro attempts to extort business

“Fraudsters pretending to be BC Hydro representatives are threatening to disconnect small business owners’ power unless they send in cash cards, prepaid credit cards or even bitcoin right away.”
