1)    In Ohio, it was proven that municipalities and their residents can force the telecoms acknowledge concerns microcells. If they can do it, why can’t we?

Cities, carriers strike compromise over 5G technology

“Legislation to limit local control over equipment placement was tacked on as an amendment to a bill that regulated pet shops, Senate Bill 331, that passed during the Legislature’s lame-duck session at the end of 2017. That bill also banned cities from raising their minimum wage.

Many communities were unhappy with what they saw as the state setting standards for what are called small-cell wireless antennas. The cities believed that SB 331 severely limited their ability to regulate where small cell towers could be located and what they could look like. They saw it as an infringement on their home rule powers.

The cities believed SB 331 would have allowed telecommunications companies to attach new wireless equipment to existing light poles, traffic signals or sign poles along public streets or construct a new pole or modify an existing pole that has wireless equipment.”

2)    We all know that exposure to EMR / EMF has been linked to cancers, but there are many other health problems caused or exacerbated by exposure – breathing problems is one.

Do You Have Respiratory Issues? Exposure to Cell Phone Radiation, “Dirty Electricity”, WiFi and Other Sources of Electrosmog Can Make It Worse.

“Dose-response (lethality) data have been obtained for rats exposed frontally to CW [continuous wave] microwave radiation in the frequency range 0.9 to 8 GHz…

The cause of death has been established as congestion, hemorrhage, and obstruction of nasal passages and/or congestion, hemorrhage, and often edema of the lungs

The higher the power density (intensity of the radiation) the more quickly the rats died. Of the four frequencies tested, the two most lethal frequencies (0.95 and 2.45 GHz) are commonly used for analog mobile phones (0.8 to 0.9 GHz); microwave ovens (2.45 GHz); and both digitally pulsed cordless phones and wireless routers (2.4 GHz). The least toxic of the frequencies was 4.54 GHz (near 5.0 GHz also used for some WiFi systems).

The primary site of damage appears to be the blood vessels of the lung and respiratory tract with edema and hemorrhage representing changes in permeability of vessel walls.”

3)    A great interview with Dr. Devra Davis and Mark Hertsgaard on NPR about how industry has deceived the public into thinking cell phones and microwave radiation are safe.  How they “war game science”.  If only we could get politicians, doctors and lots of people to listen to this. Please share widely.

The Nation investigates how big wireless made us think that cell phones are safe

“On this edition of Your Call, we discuss the safety of wireless radiation. A new Nation magazine investigation explores how big wireless companies used the same playbook as big oil and big tobacco to deceive the public and create the appearance of scientific uncertainty, while making people think that cell phones are safer than independent science suggests.

Decades ago, the wireless industry’s own scientists privately warned there were “serious questions” about wireless radiation’s links to cancer and genetic damage. What does the science say?”

4)    Solar power is growing in popularity in all parts of the USA, with projects ranging from single family units to larger units providing distributed power to many homes. The costs are coming down and the utilities should be worried if they don’t adjust.

Solar power: the Northeast vs. utility scale

The latest report by the Institute for Local Self Reliance looks at the scale of solar across the United States.

“In the end, it will be essential to embrace solar at all scales. The utility scale developers are driving innovation and pricing as they focus on cutting costs, and these large installs are the only kind of solar capable of feeding dense populations in urban regions.

However, as corporations driven by short-term profit and in many cases protecting monopolies, electric utilities have shown time and time again that they are fundamentally stuck in the business models of the past. Distributed solar and other forms of generation are essential for building the political support to take on these utilities, as every citizen with solar on their roof has a concrete stake in the policies that will drive renewable energy adoption.”
